A donation will never be paid back to the donor. Any interest generated on donations will go into the Microloan Endowment to help fund our operations and write grants to schools and churches.

An investment will be paid back to the donor either with or without interest depending on the kind of investment the investor makes and their investment preferences. If the investor opts to donate their interest, the investor will receive a tax deductible receipt for the interest donated and the donated interest will go into the Microloan Endowment.

If you choose to donate the interest of your investment, your investment will be locked up for two years. If you have opted to receive a return on investment, your investment will be locked up for the time that you selected (3, 5, or 10 years). The duration of your lock-up period will affect the rate of return you receive. For current rates of return, speak with an investment advisor.

In addition to the immeasurable spiritual and social return you will receive, you may opt-in to receive a financial return on investment if you invest $25,000 or more. (Min $5,000 if you donate your interest).

The rate of return that you may receive will vary depending on the lock-up period. Speak to an investment advisor for current interest rates. It may be possible that there is no option to invest if we have already exceeded our investment capacity. But generally the ROI is similar to a high-yield bond.

If you donate your interest, you will receive a tax-deductible receipt at the end of the year instead of quarterly distributions.

If you are switching from interest-free to earning interest, you may submit an application to earn interest and if your applicaiton is approved, your loan will begin earning interest. We will approve applications as long as your investment exceeds the $25,000 minimum threshold and as long as we have the capacity to take on more interest-earning investors.
